Some fans and teams complain about the busy schedule during this time of year but one thing Mourinho did say when he was coaching abroad, is that he missed the Christmas schedule – something that Portugal, Italy and Spain do not have.
It’s no wonder the Portuguese manager enjoys it – his record is pretty phenomenal this time of year. Well, his record is pretty phenomenal all time of year as the Chelsea boss.
José Mourinho has a Premier League win ratio of 70% during his 175 games in charge of Chelsea. His record over Christmas fixtures, from the last game before Christmas Day to the last game before the FA Cup third round, is 79%. And he’s not lost a single game during this period. There’s only one manager who has a higher win percentage in the Premier League (minimum one season in charge) and that is current Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean has won 71% of his matches and like Mourinho back in 2005, won the English top flight in his first season in charge.
