Man Utd make offer for teenage star after Old Trafford visit

Manchester United have submitted an official offer for Angers teenage sensation Rayan Ait-Nouri, according to reports in his country.

The 19-year-old made 17 appearances (16 starts) in the disrupted 2019-20 French Ligue 1 campaign at left-back. He recorded two assists in Stephane Moulin first team, who only scored 28 goals in their 28 games during an 11th place finish. Angers defensive record was better than three clubs in the top half.

Ait-Nouri is widely considered as one of France’s many promising up-and-coming talents. He has three caps for the country’s Under-21 squad to date.

French outlet Foot Mercato is reporting that Rayan Ait-Nouri will leave Angers this summer, with a number of Premier League sides interested, including both Manchester clubs, for whom he visited both Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium earlier this week.

Manchester City have had issues at left-back in recent seasons, with Benjamin Mendy being injured for the majority of the last two, and winger Oleksandr Zinchenko converting to defensive duties for more than half of their 2018-19 title-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have had 19-year-old Brandon Williams breakthrough at left-back this past season, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got some strong performances out of Luke Shaw, himself still only 25. United must have very high hopes for Ait-Nouri.

The report from France goes on to say that both Manchester City and United’s offers were ‘firm’, with agent Jorge Mendes meeting with Angers executives to negotiate a deal.

Rayan Ait-Nouri still has three years left on his contract at the Raymond Kopa Stadium and the report states he could become the club’s most expensive sale this summer, which would need to eclipse the £22.5 million sale of Jeff Reine-Adelaide to Lyon.

In all, the teenager has made 20 appearances in Ligue 1 for Angers, following his debut in August 2018.
