Mikel Arteta is believed to have transfer listed as many as 10 Arsenal players as the Spanish boss looks to turn the Gunners into top four contenders during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
The North London club finished down in 8th this past campaign, appointing Arteta in December, going on to win the FA Cup at the start of the month.
Arteta signed defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares in January, initially on loan, with their moves being made permanent this summer. Defence has been an issue for a number of seasons now and this is the first attempt from the inexperienced manager to upgrade Arsenal.
It is also believed that highly-rated Lyon centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes will be on his way to the Gunners in the coming days, whilst William Saliba will be available to the manager for the upcoming season having completed his one-year loan at St Etienne.
With all these new defensive acquisitions, it’s no wonder the Times is one of several outlets reporting that players have been added to the transfer list. This morning’s report names Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Rob Holding Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers as four defenders transfer listed by Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.
The Times say #Arsenal are willing to listen to offers for Sokratis, Holding, Mustafi, Chambers, Elneny, Torreira, Maitland-Niles, Guendouzi, Nelson & Lacazette. Ozil is also surplus to requirements. pic.twitter.com/xci8ujNzlf

Greek centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos has already joined newly-promoted German Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart on a season-long loan.
The Times also believes four midfielders have been added to the transfer list, including Matteo Guendouzi. That doesn’t come as a huge surprise, given the young French midfielder fell out with the new manager before the end of the 2019-20 campaign. There will no doubt be a lot of interest in the holding midfielder.
The other three midfielders named are Lucas Torreira, Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. No surprise on Elneny given he hasn’t been a big part of the first team for a couple of seasons now, and Torreira never got much of a run of games under Arteta.
The mention of Ainsley Maitland-Niles does come as a little bit of a surprise given the number of appearances he made this past season, though many of them were in place of the injured Hector Bellerin at right-back.
Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson are the two attacking players named. The manager may see the former as a good option to raise some money, whilst the signing of Willian means he has a new starter down the right wing, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the better option as the striker.
Reiss Nelson has looked promising in an Arsenal shirt so again it’s a little surprising his name comes up. However, the Gunners do have a lot of up-and-coming players in the first team so there cannot be space for them all in the squad.
