Carlton Cole said on talkSPORT (8:15am, October 22, 2020) that he would take Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil at West Ham United.
The former West Ham striker seems to rate Ozil highly, and believes that the German star would make the Hammers better.
Cole also suggested that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should have included the 32-year-old in his Premier League squad.
Arteta has omitted the former Real Madrid ace from his Premier League and Europa League squads.
While Ozil could be back in the squads after January, there is a very good chance that the German could end up not playing for the Gunners’ senior side again, especially with his current contract at the North London club running out at the end of the season.
Cole said on talkSPORT (8:15am, October 22, 2020) when asked about Ozil to West Ham: “Of course, of course. West Ham have always liked those kind of players, those magician-like players.
“Arsenal would have benefitted from having him in their squad, but he clearly doesn’t fit in at the moment.”
Could Mesut Ozil end up at West Ham United?
West Ham had mavericks in Dimitri Payet and Marko Arnautovic not so long ago, and there is space for Ozil in the team.
True, the Hammers have signed just Said Benrahma, but the Algeria international is a winger.
Manuel Lanzini is still at the Hammers and scored a superb goal against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, but Ozil would be an upgrade on the Argentine, and perhaps the two players could play with each other in the game lineup.
However, it is hard to see Ozil end up at West Ham anytime soon. The German earns £350,000 per week as salary, as reported by The Daily Mail, and the Hammers are unlikely to be able to afford that kind of wages.
Moreover, Ozil is used to challenging for titles and playing in Europe, and the Hammers narrowly avoided the dreaded drop from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of last season and may not be too appealing to the Arsenal man.
