Thiago Alcantara arrived on Merseyside in the summer, with Scousers dreaming of back to back Premier League titles – but the love affair with the Liverpool faithful has been somewhat short lived.
The Spaniard has struggled to adapt to life in England, with a string of poor performances leaving Liverpool fans questioning whether his arrival – and subsequent hefty £27m transfer fee – has been justified.
Thiago has been singled out by fans and pundits alike in recent weeks, as someone who hasn’t been performing to the necessary level, as he was again, hooked, in the 80th minute of tonight’s defeat to Chelsea.
His arrival in the summer certainly created great excitement amongst Liverpool fans, and boosted their hopes of retaining the title, but for whatever reason, the silky Spaniard hasn’t made the grade on Merseyside.
Liverpool themselves have struggled with injuries and Thiago himself has been shoehorned into a defensive midfield role, to fill the void left by Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, who have been standing in at centre half in the absence of Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Klopp’s side are famous for their high press and relentless nature, a style which doesn’t tally with Thiago’s nonchalant manner.
Perhaps this could explain the faltering performances so far – but patience amongst Liverpool fans is starting to wear thin.
Thiago has done little to endear himself to the Anfield faithful, and on the back of a fifth successive home defeat, fans certainly weren’t holding back in their criticism of their number six.
Here’s what they had to say about Thiago in the aftermath of defeat to Chelsea….
Thiago is a class player but currently looking bang average..

Klopp’s style is high intense pressing which works with players who will run all day for you which is something Thiago doesn’t do.
Signing a player like Thiago who’s absolutely quality but doesn’t suit Klopp’s style made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Can’t believe how far Liverpool have fallen of late. Offered absolutely nothing going forward, Firmino looks more like Sunderland Jon Stead than Brazilian international. Thiago been a disastrous signing upto now. There’s only so long you can blame defensive injuries #LIVCHE

Thiago is a fantastic player but he's not what Liverpool needed in that midfield. He just slows the tempo down way too often.

I don’t want to hear thiago is any good anymore. He’s worse than useless
