From hero to zero in a matter of days – Nat Phillips was the main man as Liverpool put Leipzig to the sword on Wednesday, but fast forward five days and Reds fans have a much different view on him.
Phillips has been Klopp’s go-to man lately at the back, partnering Ozan Kabak in the continued absence of their first choice defensive trio – Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
The 23-year-old spent last season plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, before returning the Anfield in the summer and catching the eye of Klopp, enough so that he decided to keep the 6’3″ colossus.
The Reds rekindled their top four ambitions tonight, dispatching Wolves at Molineux, with a solitary Diogo Jota goal enough to put his old club to the sword.
Victory leaves Liverpool five points behind Chelsea as we approach the business end of the season.
Away form isn’t the problem for the Reds, in fact the reason they have lost their grip on the top four is largely down to six consecutive home losses.
Most importantly tonight of course is the three points but on a side note for Klopp, their defensive frailties have been exposed in recent weeks, so the clean sheet will be equally as pleasing.
That clean sheet can largely be contributed to a stellar defensive performance, to which Phillips played his part, or did he?
Not if you ask Liverpool fans, they highlighted him as the weak point in their rearguard and weren’t impressed with the 23-year-old’s perfromance.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter….
Nat Phillips with the ball in his feet is the worst player in the league. He needs to kick it long every time he gets it

Nat Phillips is just me if I made it pro. Super aggressive decent defender with absolutely no ability on the ball

Outstanding from Kabak that. Chasing the ball & player down. Big Nat Phillips got caught out there #WOLLIV
