Odsonne Edouard has been a long term target of Arsenal’s, but it’s unlikely that we’ll see him at the Emirates next season, with the Gunners staff holding doubts over the youngster.
It appears Arsenal backroom staff aren’t convinced by the Frenchman’s fitness and subsequent work rate – and this has put pay to any potential deal, as he now looks set to join Leicester City.
In his brief stint as Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has tried to emulate his elder statesman, Pep Guardiola, in instilling a high pressing style, with plenty of movement whilst in possession.
The Gunners boss clearly thinks that Edouard doesn’t fit the mold and has passed up the chance to bring him to North London.
Arsenal will now have to look elsewhere for striking reinforcements, with a dark cloud surrounding the future of last seasons leading scorer, Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of next season, so Arsenal could well be exploring potential options now – pre planning for losing their marksman next summer.
It’s hard to understand why Arsenal are put off signing Edouard based off his exploits with a previous club, with pre season a perfect chance to get him up to speed and ease him into their way of playing.
