The Reds have reportedly been in talks with Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham, but the Bundesliga outfit have made a decision not to sell him in 2022.
Bellingham joined BVB for £25m in 2020 and has gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals with seven assists. The 18-year-old, who has also represented the England national team on eight occasions, is a regular at club level and looks to have a bright future.
It’s easy to see why Liverpool would want Bellingham, but it remains to be seen if their pursuit will be successful. 90min add that the Merseysiders aren’t going to be the only club in for the Englishman amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, so there may be a bidding war next year.
Jurgen Klopp might have to trim his midfield before bringing Bellingham in too. Milner no longer commands a starting place and is out of contract next year, so might he have his head on the chopping block? Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jones aren’t regulars under Klopp either.
Bellingham would be a significant improvement on Liverpool’s current options, but he likely won’t come cheap. The 18-year-old’s stock has risen considerably in the 18 months he’s spent at Dortmund, so he’ll be worth a lot more money than £25m now.
Bellingham has been outstanding at the Signal Iduna Park and could become one of the most coveted midfielders next year, so his asking price should reflect that. His deal has four more years to run too, so Dortmund aren’t in any rush to cash in.
