Liverpool vs Man City: Preview, team news, betting odds & score prediction

We have a heavyweight clash to look forward to at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool entertain Manchester City.

The Reds head into the game off the back of a comfortable 5-1 victory over Porto in the Champions League in midweek so they should be in confident mood.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men will be desperate to get back to winning ways in the Premier League having been held to a 3-3 draw at Brentford last month. That results, coupled with Chelsea’s win over Southampton, has left Liverpool sitting second in the table – two points off the leaders – so they can go clear at the top with a win on Sunday.

Manchester City travel to Merseyside sitting outside the top four despite beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend. However, a win at Anfield for Pep Guardiola’s men would see them climb up to top spot on goal difference so they’ll be keen to get one over their title rivals.

City will also be looking to get back to winning ways after slumping to a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Betting

As you’d expect in a game between two top sides, the bookmakers are expecting a close game and they’re finding it difficult to separate the teams. Currently, Manchester City are the narrow 6/4 favourites at https://www.online-slot.io/ to win the match while Liverpool can be backed at 15/8. The draw is available at odds of 12/5 for those who think the points will be shared at Anfield.

  • Liverpool win 15/8
  • Man City win 6/4
  • Draw 12/5

We should expect goals in this game and over 2.5 looks likely at odds of 3/4. First goalscorer is an interesting market in this match with so much attacking talent on display. Mohamed Salah is the dangerman for Liverpool and he’s 7/2 to open the scoring while Gabriel Jesus is 11/2 for City.

Team news

Liverpool have been dealt a major blow with the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the game with a groin injury that he picked up last weekend. James Milner is expected to start at right-back in his absence.

Thiago Alcantara is also still missing for the Reds due to a calf problem that’s hampered him in recent games while Harvey Elliott is facing an extended spell on the sidelines with a serious ankle injury.

Man City will continue to be without Benjamin Mendy after his arrest while Oleksandr Zinchenko remains on the treatment table with a calf injury.

Ilkay Gundogan is also still recovering from a thigh injury that’s kept him out recently but Fernandinho, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne are midfield options for Guardiola.

Prediction

Liverpool 2-2 Man City: Hopefully we see two of the best teams in the world put on an exciting spectacle on Sunday afternoon and there should be plenty of goal mouth action.

City have blow hot and cold at times this season as they’ve either been hammering teams 5-0 or losing without scoring so it will be interesting to see which team turns up this weekend.

Liverpool are always going to be a formidable side at Anfield and they’ll be desperate to make a statement of intent in the title race against the defending champions.

Ultimately, we can’t split these two teams and feel they’ll play out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
