Tanguy Ndombele has endured a stop-start season in his third year at Tottenham Hotspur that raises uncertainty about his future. The 25-year-old struggled for fitness at the beginning of the campaign and lost his starting place in midfield after October, so Miguel Casas of Fichajes believe his days are numbered.

Not only has Ndombele been short of playing time under Antonio Conte, he’s drawn the ire of his new manager due to concerns over his work rate, so the writing is on the wall. The French international could be made available for sale in January and Cases says he may be used as a makeweight for a replacement midfielder.

Tottenham would love Corentin Tolisso to succeed Ndombele in North London and reports say he wouldn’t cost too much money – the 27-year-old has an asking price of €10m-€15m (£8.4m-£12.6m) – but why is he available?

Tolisso joined Bayern Munich on a five-year deal from Olympique Lyonnais in 2017 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals with 15 assists, but he’s no longer commanding a starting place and has struggled with injuries.

The French international has featured in 13 of Bayern’s 26 games across the board (50%), amassing just 657 minutes of football from a possible 2340 (28%). Tolisso finds himself behind Joshua Kimmich, Marc Roca, Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer under Julian Nagelsmann, so his future looks away from the Allianz Arena.

Cases says Tottenham are ‘considering’ swapping Ndombele for Tolisso, but it remains to be seen if Bayern view that as a good deal. Nagelsman is a hard-working manager who demands the same from his players, so he might have similar issues with Ndombele as Conte has.

Bayern are desperate to offload Tolisso by any means, however, because his contract is up in the coming months and Goal said in August that it won’t be renewed. The Bundesliga leaders risk losing the 27-year-old for nothing next summer, so they need to cash in early and lowered the asking price to attract interest.

Tottenham may be able to sign Tolisso, so long as they avoid including Ndombele in the mix.
