Andreas Christensen has an uncertain future at Chelsea as his contract is up in the coming months, but the Blues are licking their wounds and have already identified his replacement. Sport1 say Chelsea are ‘interested’ in Niklas Sule whose future is uncertain at Bayern Munich because his contract also expires at the end of the season.
Sport1 say the 26-year-old ‘will leave Bayern Munich’ this summer as he’s not close to putting pen to paper on an extension, so Chelsea are positioning themselves to capitalise on the situation. Sule has been a regular for the Bundesliga defending champions this season, so this could be quite the coup by Chelsea.
The 6ft 4in defender joined Bayern on a five-year deal from TSG Hoffenheim in 2017 and has gone on to make 158 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals with four assists. Sule, who boasts 37 caps for the German national team, has featured in 25/29 games for Bayern this season, so he’s clearly an important player.
But Sport1 believe the player doesn’t want to stay in German because he wants a new challenge abroad. Chelsea’s bid to sign Sule might be hampered by Real Madrid’s interest, however, so the two clubs might go into a contract bidding war to land his signature.
Thomas Tuchel could be short of centre-backs come the end of the season as Antonio Rudiger is yet to commit his future beyond the summer, so Sule might need to be one of multiple defenders brought in. Having only Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr ahead of next season would be a problem for Chelsea.

If Chelsea can sign Sule on a free transfer, they should pursue him and match his demands. The 26-year-old has been a regular for Bayern and has plenty of playing years ahead of him, so this is a no-brainer. He might be a bargain acquisition if he can follow in the footsteps of Thiago Silva.
