Report: Player ‘wants to leave’ Man Utd, 29 y/o ‘told’ manager amid interest from PL rivals

Jesse Lingard has an uncertain future at Manchester United as he’s struggled for form and playing time this season. The 29-year-old isn’t commanding a regular starting place under Ralf Rangnick, nor has he really impressed when called upon, so a change of scenery might be exactly what he needs to turn things around.

Lingard was loaned out to West Ham this time last season and went on to score nine goals with five assists in 16 games. The England international nearly made last summer’s Euro 2020 based on his form with the Hammers, but he didn’t make the squad for November’s international break and isn’t likely to make March’s either.

While he stagnates at Man Utd, there’s no chance of him getting back into the England team. Lingard has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals with one assist. His last goal came in September’s 2-1 win over West Ham and his last assist was in September’s 2-1 win over Villarreal.

Lingard has been firing blanks for more than four months, but all isn’t lost. His form picked up when used more regularly at West Ham, so the 29-year-old wants another temporary move to get first-team football. Fabrizio Romano revealed Lingard has ‘told’ Ralf Rangnick that he ‘wants to leave’ United before the January transfer window shuts.

It appears he’s desperate for playing time and his likely destination is either West Ham or Newcastle United. Although the latter have lucrative funds and are at the beginning of an exciting project, West Ham were the side that turned Lingard’s career around in a matter of months.

David Moyes’ men also sit 5th in the Premier League to Newcastle’s 18th, so it makes more sense for Lingard to return to London. The transfer window shuts in a matter of hours, so time is running out for Lingard to secure himself a move.
