Arsenal released Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in February without bringing in a replacement, so the Gunners are expected to sign a striker this summer as Mikel Arteta could be short on options.
The Arsenal manager is left with Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah who have scored only seven Premier League goals between them this season, so a new face may be required.
Barcelona are showing an interest in the Swedish international, but Arsenal should do everything in their power to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. They’re not in a position to compete for Erling Haaland as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are interested, but Isak would consider them a step up.
La Real currently sit seventh in La Liga, scoring just one goal a game on average while being 12th in the league for shots per game (11.3), so is it any wonder Isak only has four goals from 20 league games this season? The 22-year-old would benefit from joining a side that create more opportunities, so Arsenal could look an attractive proposition – third in Premier League for shots per game (15.5) and six in league for goals (38).
Isak has four-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at the Anoeta Stadium, so Real aren’t under any obligation to cash in early, but if his €80m (£67.3m) release clause is triggered and £2.6m-a-year wages are matched, Arsenal could land their man.
Isak hasn’t been prolific this campaign, but he scored 17 goals in 34 league games last season which is why clubs are interested. He won’t come cheap, but Sport say Arsenal are trying to negotiate down the price, so time will tell if they have any success over the summer.
