Report: Liverpool dealt blow as Man Utd ‘plan to hijack’ move for 19 y/o with 13 goals & assists

Liverpool came close to signing Fabio Carvalho from Fulham in the January transfer window but left it too late to complete a deal, so the move fell through. It could get even worse for the Reds too.

The Daily Star say Manchester United have entered the race for his signature and ‘plan to hijack’ the move this summer, so Liverpool have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the highly-rated attacking-midfielder.

Carvalho rose through the youth ranks to Fulham’s first-team in 2020/21, scoring 17 goals with 13 assists from 43 games for the U18s and scoring 16 goals with six assists from 39 games for the U23s before making the step up. The 19-year-old has gone on to make 29 appearances in all competitions at senior level, scoring nine goals with five assists.

Carvalho, who has contributed 13 goals in 23 games this season, is out of contract in the coming months and has already turned down an extension. The England U18 international looked on his way out of Fulham when Liverpool agreed a deal worth £8.4m last month, but the Merseysiders ran out of time to agree personal terms and have a medical.

Man Utd snatching him from under their nose would be the biggest insult, but the Daily Star say Arsenal, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are also paying attention. Carvalho has been outstanding for Fulham who are currently leading the Championship, but it doesn’t appear he wants to stay in West London beyond the summer.

Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for Carvalho’s signature, as they’d already negotiated a fee with Fulham and were willing to loan the attacking-midfielder back to Craven Cottage if they sealed promotion, but United are taking this seriously.

They recently send scouts to watch Carvalho and won’t have to break the bank to bring him to Old Trafford, so time will tell how this story ends.
