Report: Liverpool must pay £33.3m and £4.2m wages for 20 y/o with 29 goals in 83 games

Jurgen Klopp isn’t short of strikers at Liverpool with Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Divock Origi and Mohamed Salah able to operate in the position, but it appears the Merseysiders are after another centre-forward.

Sky Germany say Liverpool are keen on Karim Adeyemi and may have to battle Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig for his signature.

Adeyemi joined RB Salzburg from SpVgg Unterhaching in 2018 and has gone on to make 83 appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals with 19 assists. The 20-year-old has two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at the Red Bull Arena, but he could be on the move given all the clubs showing an interest.

Origi could leave Liverpool this summer as he’s out of contract in the coming months and hasn’t been a regular in the starting lineup. The 26-year-old has made just 14/44 appearances and has amassed just 533 minutes of football from a possible 3960, so the writing is on the wall.

Firmino’s future is uncertain too, having scored four goals in 15 league games this season, so Klopp might be short on strikers ahead of next season. The 30-year-old has less than 18 months remaining on his deal, so a decision needs to be made whether to cash in early or hand him a contract extension.

If Klopp has a void to fill in attack, Adeyemi wouldn’t be a bad option – he’s scored 15 goals in 21 Bundesliga games this campaign. The 20-year-old has an asking price of €40m (£33.3m) and would request €5m-a-year/€96k-per-week  (£4.2m-a-year/£81k-per-week) in wages, so he’s more than affordable.

Summary

Liverpool may have to replace Origi in the coming months but won’t put all their eggs into one basket regarding a successor. The Reds are likely to have Adeyemi on a long list of potential transfer targets, so time will tell who they end up signing to bolster the frontline.
