Conor Gallagher may have an uncertain future at Chelsea as an exodus is predicted this summer following sanctions placed on Roman Abramovich. The Blues have had their assets frozen and are being denied the opportunity to make money through transfers, ticket sales and merchandise, so they may be forced to cash in on players under new ownership.

Abramovich has placed the club up for sale and is expected to depart in the coming weeks and months when a suitor matches his asking price, but there are a lot of players who won’t know what the future holds for them. Gallagher is firmly in that bracket. The 22-year-old has spent the last three seasons out on loan – Charlton Athletic (August 2019 – January 2020), West Bromwich Albion (September 2020 – May 2021), Crystal Palace (July 2021 – present) – and may feel he’s better off away from Chelsea.

Gallagher has impressed at Palace and has been publicly praised by Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, but he won’t want to play a supporting role next season. The 22-year-old has flourished with regular playing time and will surely demand that if he’s to stay at Stamford Bridge. So with The Sun revealing Inter Milan and Juventus have ‘sent scouts’ to watch Gallagher this season, might the England international be tempted abroad?

Gallagher has scored 12 goals with four assists in 53 games for Chelsea’s U18s, scored one goal with six assists in 15 games for the U19s and scored four goals with three assists in 24 games for the U23s. He’s yet to make a first-team appearances for the West Londoners and may not get the chance while N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Saul Niguez, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek stand in his way.

Summary

Gallagher won’t be short of interest if he decides to leave Chelsea, but he might weigh up his options over the summer. The 22-year-old has been with the Blues since the age of 6 and has dreamt he’d one day represent the first-team, so time will tell if he opts to leave.
