Tottenham Hotspur aren’t short of left-backs with Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies at their disposal, but Davies has been operating as a makeshift centre-back while Reguilon operates higher up the pitch, so the Lilywhites could benefit from signing a natural fullback to provide cover on the left hand side. He might even be in direct competition with Reguilon for a starting place.
Türkiye Gazetesi (h/t Sport Witness) say Spurs are interested in Rıdvan Yılmaz and have made a bid which is yet to be accepted. Tottenham have offered €8m (£6.75m) for the 20-year-old, but Türkiye Gazetesi says Besiktas won’t sell for less than €10m (£8.4m).
Yılmaz rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2020 and has gone on to make 59 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals with seven assists. He’s represented Turkey at senior level on six occasions and is a regular at the Vodafone Park Arena, so his future looks bright.
The 20-year-old has made 24 Super Lig appearances across the board this season, scoring three goals with four assists. He’s contributed more goals than Davies (24 appearances, one goal, one assist), Sergio Reguilón (25 appearances, two goals, three assists), Matt Doherty (15 appearances, two goals, four assists) and Emerson Royal (26 appearances, one goal, one assist).
Besiktas won’t want to let an important defender leave for cheap, but Yılmaz is out of contract in 2023 and isn’t close to signing a new deal, so Kara Kartallar risk losing him on a free transfer unless they cash in early.
That’s where Tottenham hope to come in, as the 20-year-old has long spoken about coming to England, though he cited Arsenal as the club he wanted to join previously. Nevertheless, Spurs can bag their man if they up their bid, potentially getting a bargain acquisition through the door in Yılmaz.
