Manchester United are interested in signing Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to Italian news outlet Calcio Napoli 24.

The report claims that United have already made contact with the 26-year-old’s agents to sound him out over a possible move to Old Trafford this summer.

Napoli are said to be expected to entertain offers in the region of £25million for the former Real Betis man.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has this morning taken to Twitter to provide an update on Fabian’s contract situation at the Serie A outfit.

The player, who is currently under contract until next summer met with Napoli yesterday to discuss a new deal, however a breakthrough is still to be reached.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also monitoring his situation in the event that he will become a free agent at the end of the upcoming campaign.

Frenkie De Jong remains United’s main midfield transfer target during the current transfer window, with Erik ten Hag already admitting that he still wants to add to his options in the middle of the park to cope with the demands of the club looking to compete on multiple fronts.

Fabian would also represent a shrewd piece of business if he can be signed for £25million ahead of others likely to be interested when he becomes a free agent next summer.
