Gabriel Slonina will fly into London today to complete a move to Chelsea, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Chicago Fire goalkeeper is set to sign a long-term contract with Thomas Tuchel’s side in a $15million (£12.3million) deal.

Slonina will head back to Chicago to continue his career with the MLS outfit on loan to continue his first-team footballing experience.

Chelsea have beaten off competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Real Madrid to land the highly-rated 18-year-old, who has already played 34 senior games in the USA top flight (Evening Standard).

Slonina will become Chelsea’s third signining of the new ownership regime after he undertakes his medical, following Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly in becoming Thomas Tuchel’s new arrivals ahead of the new campaign.

If Chelsea can move on Kepa either this transfer window or in January, it could present the opportunity for the club to recall Slonina to become Mendy’s understudy or send him out on loan to a club in Europe.

There’s no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him, and is chasing down the MLS clean sheet record, needing seven more needed from 11 games to make the record his own.
