Chelsea are currently weighing up their options to rival Manchester City over a potential transfer move for Brighton defender Marc Cucurella this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues are searching the market for a left wing-back addition despite having options like Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso. However, Emerson is touted to be in line to leave for Lazio on a loan move with an option to make the deal permanent for £8million (Calciomercato).

Alonso, on the other hand, is mooted to be on the way to joining Barcelona ahead of the upcoming campaign. As such, Thomas Tuchel’s team has enquired with Brighton and Hove Albion over Cucurella, with Manchester City also interested in securing his services.

Cucurella has already made up his mind about departing the Seagulls, having handed in a transfer request.

Manchester City are said to have tabled an offer of around £35million, while the south coast side are holding out for a fee of £50million.

Finding a quality left wing-back is quite important for Chelsea this summer as they need someone who could provide healthy competition to Chilwell. After all, such an option could allow Tuchel to rest Chilwell following his long absence from the pitch.

Chilwell can slowly be integrated back into the mix if Tuchel has someone like Cucurella, who is just as dependable as any other top left wing-back. However, questions can be raised about whether the former Barcelona man would risk reduced game time with the 2022 Qatar World Cup being on the horizon.

Cucurella is looking to team up with his fellow Spanish compatriot Pep Guardiola which would make things much more complicated for the West Londoners. However, the Citizens and Potter’s team are still far apart when it comes to the transfer fee involved in a permanent transfer move.

The current situation does give the Todd Boehly-owned club some leeway in making their case if they actively pursue Cucurella. That being said, the chances of striking a deal for the 26-year-old full-back is quite low after applying the context mentioned above,
