Report: Everton looking to offload £25m signing before transfer window slams shut

Everton are looking to offload midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin before the summer transfer window closes, according to The Times.

The defensive midfielder moved to Goodison Park on a five-year deal from Bundesliga outfit Mainz back in the summer of 2019 for a reported £25million fee (BBC).

The 26-year-old who arrived at the club under Marco Silva has failed to make an impact during his time on Merseyside, having made just eight appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Gbamin joined CSKA Moscow on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season in February where he went on to make 13 appearances.

The report claims that Everton are now prepared to cash in on the Ivory Coast international, who arrived at Goodison Park looking to fill the shoes of Idrissa Gueye, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Gbamin’s time at Everton was marred by injury which certainly did not help him looking to make a positive impression.  A thigh injury in his first season followed by an Achillies issue kept him sidelined for a substantial period and now it appears that Frank Lampard has decided it is time to move the midfielder on permanently.

Regardless of his injury, Everton need to stop making big-money mistakes in the transfer window if they are to turn around their fortunes this season.

The recruitment team need to ensure that the players not only are physically capable of the rigours of the Premier League, but also have the ability to drag the Toffees up the table.
