Tottenham Hotspur have new talks planned for this week with AS Roma over a possible move for Nicolo Zaniolo, journalist Santi Aouna has revealed on Twitter.

Zaniolo lined up against Tottenham for Jose Mourinho’s side at the weekend when the two sides squared off in Israel, with the Italian’s securing a 1-0 victory in the i-Tech Cup.

It is now claimed that Roma are keen to sign Torino marksman Andrea Belotti and will discuss a possible deal with the Serie A counterparts, while talks with Tottenham are also scheduled for Zaniolo.

Tuttosport claimed last month that Spurs are keen to add a creative midfielder to their ranks ahead of the new season with Fabio Paratici likely to hold talks over a potential deal said to be in the region of €45 million (£37.6million).

Roma have already added Paulo Dybala to their ranks last month and if they can also secure Belotti, it could open the door for Tottenham to make their move for Zaniolo.

Many would have thought at the start of the summer that Christian Eriksen would have been a certainty to return to north London, given his previous spell at the club and the fact he was available as a free agent but decided not to follow up their interest due to the Dane’s financial demands and on-field expectations.

Zaniolo is a talent but does not come without risks given his previous record of two serious knee injuries.  One thing is for sure, Tottenham cannot continue to rely on Harry Kane to pull the strings and unlock an opposition defence.
