Bayern Munich to remain active during final stages of the transfer window

It has been a fantastic summer for Bayern Munich and it can get even better if they manage to add one or two more players in the closing stages of the window.

Something strange happened last season in Germany. In England, Italy and France, there was hardly any suspense in the title race. Manchester City, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain won the league title quite easily in the end.

In Germany, it was a tense affair. Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were still in the hunt for the Bundesliga title. Dortmund needed a victory to win the league title, but they faltered at the final hurdle.

In a dramatic turn of events, Bayern lifted the title yet again. It was far from convincing, but at least it saved Thomas Tuchel’s job and those with Bayern Munich tickets were able to celebrate on the final day.

They have made a solid start to the new campaign, winning the opening two games quite easily. Bayern defeated Werder Bremen 4-0 in the opening game away from home and won 3-1 against Augusberg in the second game.

Summer signing Harry Kane has made a strong impact already, scoring three goals thus far. It has been a fantastic summer window for the German giants, and it can get even better if they manage to add one or two more players in the closing stages of the window.

Bayern’s current transfer window

The German giants sold Lucas Hernandez to Paris Saint-Germain, Benjamin Pavard to Inter Milan and Sadio Mane to the Saudi club Al-Nassr.

Marcel Sabitzer – who played for Manchester United on loan last season – joined Borussia Dortmund while goalkeeper Yann Sommer has moved to Inter Milan.

Bayern signed a replacement for Sommer, with Daniel Peterz joining from Tel Aviv. Konrad Laimer has joined from RB Leipzig while left-back Raphael Guerreiro has joined from Dortmund on a free transfer.

Kim Min-jae has joined from Napoli on a big-money deal, but the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur is a game changer. Kane has finally secured a move away from Spurs, and he will have a chance to lift a trophy.

The England international has been a phenomenal goalscorer for Spurs, but he feels the time is right for him to move elsewhere and win some trophies.

Bayern Munich: Who could they sign? Who could leave?

One of the players who could leave before the end of the window is young midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. The 21-year-old is a highly-rated holding midfielder and Tuchel wanted him to be a part of his side.

The Dutch midfielder, however, seeks regular game time, and he is keen to leave the club. Widespread reports suggest that Liverpool are in active discussion with Bayern over a deal for the young midfielder.

The Reds are ready to submit a formal bid for Gravenberch, but a fee is still to be agreed.

The midfielder is currently not training at the club, and it feels like a matter of time. The Dutch international is possibly waiting for the green light from Bayern, but it looks like a deal can be struck.

Bayern could be willing to do a deal for around £26m, but there are suggestions that the fee could rise up to £35m.

Manchester United also showed interest in signing Gravenberch, and there are suggestions that the German champions could ask Scott McTominay in return as a part of a swap deal.

McTominay is currently out of favour at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has just managed seven minutes of Premier League football thus far, and clearly he is not in Eric ten Hag’s first-choice plans.

The Scottish midfielder has graduated from the club’s academy and has featured 211 times for the senior side, scoring 19 times already.

It will be interesting to see if Bayern consider McTominay as a serious option in case Gravenberch moves to Liverpool. Tuchel has expressed his desire to sign a defensive-minded midfielder and former Chelsea boss probably sees McTominay as the perfect fit for this role.

Other midfield targets for Bayern

Joao Palhinha

The Fulham midfielder has been reportedly chased by a host of clubs this summer including Bayern.

In fact, the Bavarian giants have made a 50m bid for the Portuguese midfielder already.

Tuchel wants to stamp his own authority on the squad, and adding a new midfielder is a top priority. Having signed players like Kane, Min-jae, and Guerriro, it doesn’t come as a big surprise that Bayern have made a move for Palhinha.

Having sold Aleksander Mitrovic, Fulham definitely won’t be in the mood to sell another key asset. Palhinha joined Fulham last season for a fee of around 20m, and he is definitely worth at least three times that valuation.

His physical presence and tactical ability will make him a key player for Bayern. Palhinha wants to move as well, but it depends on whether Fulham can sign a suitable replacement.

Eric Dier

Could Dier move away from Spurs to join Bayern?  It has been suggested that the England midfielder is currently out-of-favor at the north London club.

Dier is primarily a central defensive midfielder but has played as a centre-back in the past few years.

The versatile midfielder is the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has failed to make a Premier League squad in 2023-24.

Considering his contract situation, he could join for a nominal fee. Ange Postecoglou’s former club Celtic have been linked with a move, but Bayern have been presented with the chance to sign him.

Trevoh Chalobah

If Gravenberch leaves, Bayern could look to sign Chalobah from Chelsea.

This summer, we have seen a mass clear-out from Chelsea, and they are not done yet. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have already moved elsewhere, and chances are high that Chalobah could be shipped out as well.

A proposed move to Inter Milan has already fallen through. He has made 63 appearances for the club, but has failed to nail down a regular place in the side.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has got wealth of options in midfield, and Chalobah could find it really tough to get into the starting line-up.

Conor Gallagher

According to The Guardian, Tottenham and Bayern Munich are fighting it for Gallagher as we approach the final day of the transfer window.

Gallagher captained for the Blues against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night, and he has played in every game this season.

He has two years left on his current deal and there is a strong chance that he will leave his boyhood club before the transfer window shuts on Friday night.

Chelsea have added Moises Caicedo, Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia and they are open to offers for Gallagher. He would be a smart signing for Bayern.
