Champions League 2023/24 group stage draw

The draw for the 2023/24 Champions League group stage has been completed in Monaco.

The 32 teams were seeded into four pots comprising eight teams. Pot one consisted of Manchester City and Sevilla, the current holders of the Champions League and Europa League titles, respectively.

They were joined by the champions of the top six divisions in accordance with the UEFA club coefficient rankings.

Feyenoord, who clinched the Eredivisie title from a division ranked seventh, found themselves in Pot 1 as well, thanks to Man City’s Premier League triumph.

The pots were as follows:

  • Pot 1: Manchester City, Sevilla, Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Feyenoord.
  • Pot 2: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Porto, Arsenal.
  • Pot 3: Shakhtar Donetsk, RB Salzburg, AC Milan, Braga, Lazio, Red Star Belgrade, PSV Eindhoven, Copenhagen.
  • Pot 4: Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, Celtic, Newcastle United, Union Berlin, RC Lens, Royal Antwerp, Young Boys.

Group A looks especially tantalising with Man United handed a box office Champions League fixture against German champions Bayern.

However, they will fancy their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds, with Copenhagen and Galatasaray rounding up the group.

Arsenal will renew acquaintances with PSV in Group B, while fixtures against Lens and Europa League title holders Sevilla also make for an interesting draw.

Defending champions Man City should be coasting through Group G with fixtures against familiar foes Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade, and Young Boys lined up.

Meanwhile, Newcastle would have hoped for a better draw following a 19-year hiatus, with the Magpies facing PSG, Dortmund, and Milan in the quest to earn a spot in the knockout rounds.
