Hugo Lloris turns down Lazio move, could remain at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur veteran Hugo Lloris has rejected a move to Serie A giants Lazio, RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports.

The leaders at the Roman club were eager to recruit the Spurs legend this summer after tabling a two-year deal with the option of an additional 12-month stay at Stadio Olimpico.

Spurs are prepared to let Lloris depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a free transfer despite having one more year to run on his contract.

However, the World Cup winner is not particularly enthused about spending the latter parts of his career in Rome and has turned down the move.

Lloris is still keeping his options open with a summer departure on the cards, but if no prospective suitor present an attractive proposal, he could see out the remainder of his contract with Spurs.

However, the latter option could see him spend his final days with the North London club playing second fiddle to Guglielmo Vicario, who has been hugely impressive thus far.

The towering 26-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Spurs over the summer made four saves in his debut outing against Brentford, helping his new side secure a point in the 2-2 London derby draw.

He topped that performance by making an impressive six saves in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.

Vicario also registered some eye-catching underlying numbers in his exceptional home debut against Man United, completing 3/6 long passes while preventing an average of 1.46 goals.

Lloris has served Tottenham well during his 11-year association with the club but may be reduced to the odd appearance if he fails to secure an exit this summer.

The 36-year-old still has plenty of admirers in the Saudi Pro League. But in the event that he remains at the club, Spurs could look to offload Fraser Forster, who also has one year left on his contract.
