Liverpool haven’t forgotten about Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes despite their failure to sign him during the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes.
The Merseyside giants had a busy summer transfer window where they bolstered their midfield with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endu and Ryan Gravenberch.
Guimaraes was another player on the club’s radar, but they were met with a firm refusal from the Magpies, who had no desire to part ways with him before the transfer deadline.
The Brazilian is now on the verge of extending his Magpies contract until June 2028, but there will be a release clause worth £100 million that could be triggered next summer.
Fichajes highlight the same in their update and mention that the Reds have not forgotten about him and their interest remains latent.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool highly value the midfielder and believe he would be a valuable addition to the squad. The club will continue to closely monitor his performances.
Liverpool could move for Guimaraes in future
The 25-year-old had a fantastic second season with the Magpies last term. He registered five goals and five assists and was brilliant with his defensive duties from the number six role.
His start to the current campaign was unconvincing, but he has picked up form since the international break. He scored and assisted in the 8-0 rout of Sheffield United over the weekend.
Aside from this, he has completed 87 per cent of his passes with an impressive 1.8 tackles and 6.5 duels won per game.
The Brazilian is just in the prime of his career and should only get better. Despite the huge spending last summer, the Reds are still lacking the presence of an elite defensive midfielder.
Guimaraes could be their solution in the long-term. We won’t be surprised if the Reds are prepared to activate his reported release clause in 10 months’ time to bring him to Anfield.
