Aston Villa will face Luton Town in the Premier League on Sunday (29 October) at Villa Park and Chris Sutton has predicted a comfortable victory for Unai Emery’s side.
The Villans are on fire at the moment. They are heading into this game on the back of a 4-1 win against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League, and they will be in full confidence for this game.
Sutton has been left impressed with Villa duo Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby – both forging a strong partnership this season. Watkins has been in tremendous form for Villa, managing five goals and five assists in the Premier League already. The BBC pundit has predicted a 2-0 win for Villa.
“Out of the three promoted teams, Luton are the ones who have surprised me the most so far and they showed they had a bit about them when they fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Nottingham Forest last week,” wrote Sutton for BBC Sport.
“Fighting back for a point at the City Ground was a good sign but, let’s be honest, going to Villa Park is a much tougher task.
“Aston Villa are on fire, especially at home, and the goals they are scoring through Ollie Watkins and his link-up with Moussa Diaby makes them very hard to stop.”
Outstanding Watkins
Watkins has always been a consistent performer for Villa but he has taken his game to a whole new level under Emery.
At one point in time, pundits debated whether Watkins deserved a chance in the national team in place of Patrick Bamford. Well, the debate no longer exists. The 27-year-old has proved that he is one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how long Villa can keep hold of him. His impressive performance must have caught the attention of heavyweight clubs and they could make a move for him in the next summer transfer window.
It should not bother Villa, though. They are aiming to break into the top four this season, and even if they fail, the club should aim to make it to the Europa League places at least. Watkins has a contract at the club until 2028, and Villa are expected to demand a massive transfer fee for him.
