Leeds United new owners, 49ers Enterprises, are looking to push forward with their plans for Elland Road development before the end of the season, as per Phil Hay.
Writing for The Athletic, the well-known journalist reported on Tuesday (17 October) that returning to the Premier League is the topmost priority for the current Leeds owners.
After three seasons in the Premier League, the Whites suffered relegation last season. Andrea Radrizzani sold his shares to 49ers Enterprises and he has no connection with the Yorkshire club at the moment.
Leeds are currently fifth in the table, 11 points behind Leicester City but there’s still a lot of time left for them to qualify for an automatic promotion. The Whites’ fans will be thrilled to know that the club are considering the stadium development project.
The 49ers are the sole owners of the club at the moment and hence they are the sole decision makers. In a split partnership, projects get delayed if two or more owners do not share a similar vision. They have already impressed the Whites’ fans with their administrative skills, and the stadium development will excite the fan base.
Elland Road is not just a stadium, it is the soul of this club. It is one of the most iconic stadiums in the country, and very few stadiums can match its atmosphere. In all probability, the owners will look to renovate the West Stand to build it to a 55,000 capacity.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites are pulling in £1 million every matchday at Elland Road, which is indeed a good number. But it is still some £4 million less than a Premier League club such as Tottenham Hotspur banks every fixture.
The club must ensure that Daniel Farke gets sufficient funds to buy players in the transfer market so that Leeds stay competitive, and at the same time, they find ways to increase their revenue by expanding their spiritual home.
