Predicted Newcastle starting line-up v Borussia Dortmund

Four issues Eddie Howe must fix at Newcastle

Newcastle United will take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday (25 October) at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are in terrific form at the moment, having remained unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions, winning six of them. They are heading into this game on the back of a 4-0 win against Crystal Palace, and Eddie Howe will be looking for another home win.

Dortmund narrowly missed out on winning the Bundesliga title last season. They have also made a fantastic start in the Bundesliga and it is going to be a fascinating contest. The German giants lost their opening game 2-0 against PSG and drew 0-0 against AC Milan.

The Magpies on the other hand earned an emphatic 4-1 win against PSG and drew 0-0 against Milan at San Siro. At home, they are expected to dominate the game and get a positive result.

The big question mark remains whether Sandro Tonali will be allowed to play. The former AC Milan midfielder is facing an investigation by the Italian officials, and he could be banned for 12 months if he is found guilty.

Howe has confirmed that Tonali is available, but it remains to be seen if he features. Sean Longstaff played against Palace in the previous game and he is likely to keep his place.

Both Josh Murphy and Callum Wilson scored in that game, but Howe could drop them to bring in Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak.

Isak, 24, has scored six goals in the Premier League already, but he has yet to find the net in the Champions League.

Predicted Newcastle XI: Pope; Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Gordon.
