Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Telegraph.
The England international has found it difficult to play regularly under Pep Guardiola since joining from Leeds United in 2022.
Phillips has played just 70 minutes of Premier League football in 2023-24 after starting two of the 12 league games he featured in last term, and he will consider a move away from Man City if he continues to sit on the bench heading into winter.
Spurs’ new technical director Johan Lange is a big fan of the 27-year-old and could look to lure him to the London club if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaves in January.
Newcastle will also be without Sandro Tonali, who is also facing a lengthy suspension due to a betting scandal.
The Magpies will need a cover in the meantime, and Phillips has emerged as an option.
The former Leeds star was dubbed ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola last month, but whether the Man City manager would allow him to move to a Premier League rival on a temporary basis remains to be seen.
Juventus are also in need of cover in midfield as Nicolo Fagioli has been banned for seven months due to a betting scandal, while Paul Pogba has also been suspended for an anti-doping offence and could face a ban of between two and four years if found guilty.
Phillips will not be short of suitors in January, and a move to Tottenham or Newcastle could be more appealing rather than leaving England.
The defensive midfielder proved himself with Leeds while they were in the Championship before earning promotion in 2020, making his England debut in the division before helping to keep the Elland Road club up for two seasons.
He will be desperate to prove himself elsewhere to boost his chances of making it to the 2024 European Championship with the Three Lions, and Spurs and the Magpies could both be willing to offer him a chance.
