Arsenal have decided not to sell Jakub Kiwior in the January transfer window, according to a report from Sunday People (19 November, page 56).
Kiwior has struggled for regular games this season, having made only four starts in all competitions. He was signed by Mikel Arteta for around £20m from Spezia last winter but he has struggled to make an impact.
The 23-year-old has played as both centre-back and left-back for the Gunners but he has struggled to force into the first eleven, thanks to the partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba.
90min recently claimed Arsenal are open to selling Kiwior in the January transfer window.
Sunday People claims that Kiwior is attracting interest from Italian giants AC Milan and Roma due to his lack of minutes in north London, but Arteta does not want to let him go, having already lost Jurrien Timber to a serious knee injury.
The Gunners do not want to weaken their squad and Arteta’s decision to keep hold of Kiwior makes sense.
The reality is that Kiwior was never going to be a regular starter for the club. He was mainly seen as a back-up option or at best a decent squad player.
At the same time, Kiwior may refuse to waste his time sitting on the bench, especially at this stage of his career where he seeks regular games for his development.
Arsenal are expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season and Arteta will want a full-strength team at his disposal. He should look to use him in cup games, and involve him in some Premier League matches as well to keep the dressing room happy.
