Keith Jackson has suggested that Brendan Rodgers should be looking to sign a new striker for Celtic in the January transfer window.
The Daily Record (November 6, page 38) journalist says that Rodgers didn’t get what he wanted this summer but signing a new number nine will be a priority.
Kyogo Furuhashi has been superb for the Bhoys since he joined the club, but a reliable back-up option is needed.
“Brendan Rodgers may have allowed the summer transfer window to come and go without getting what he wanted,” wrote Jackson for the Daily Record.
“But he’ll be looking for better in the January sales and a new number nine will be at the top of his shopping list,”
Jackson is spot-on
Celtic are aiming to do well in the Champions League and will hope to at least feature in the Europa League if they fail to make progress.
It is a long season and Celtic need to maintain consistency. Furuhashi has been outstanding for this club, but the Hoops do not appear to have enough resources to cope if he gets injured.
Hyeon-gyu So is a reliable option up front, but he is not the answer for Rodgers. He has shown he can be a reliable back-up, but Celtic need more quality in big games.
He brings physicality and has the intelligence to be in and around the box at the right time. However, a top-quality striker is still needed in January.
Celtic recorded a 3-0 win against Ross County on Saturday. They will face Atletico Madrid in Spain in the Champions League on Tuesday.
