Liverpool are one of the clubs heavily interested in signing Portuguese defender Gonaclo Incacio, and Sporting are bracing for bids, as per O Jogo.
The Portuguese newspaper (17 November, page 16) claims that Sporting are aware that top European clubs are showing keen interest in the 22-year-old, with the Reds being one of them.
Jurgen Klopp could be looking to sign a new defender next summer and has earmarked Inacio as a perfect option.
O Jogo adds that if an arrive arrives for Inacio next summer, it will be very hard for Sporting to hold on to their star player, and they expect an offer “may arrive soon”. Sporting value him at around £52m.
Sporting have made it clear that they will not lose any of their main players in the winter transfer window, but the situation could easily change next summer. Along with Liverpool, heavyweight clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United are also keen.
Perfect for Liverpool
Inacio is emerging as one of the top defenders in the league, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Reds are one of his admirers.
Liverpool could have signed a new defender in the summer but they prioritized bolstering their midfield following the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
However, next summer, it will be a different story. Joel Matip has a contract at the club until the end of the season and he is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Virgil van Dijk is enjoying a terrific season but he is not getting younger. The Reds need to think of his long-term replacement from now on.
Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are fantastic players but they are too injury prone. Put simply, Liverpool need another top player, and Inacio could be a cracking addition.
