Mehrdad Ghodoussi shares message after Newcastle loss v Borussia Dortmund

Four issues Eddie Howe must fix at Newcastle

Newcastle United suffered a big blow in their attempt to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League after they lost 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night (7 November) at Signal Iduna Park.

The Magpies, co-owner, Mehrdad Ghodoussi has shared a classy message on X after the game, where he suggested that Eddie Howe’s side lost by “fine margins”.

The multi-millionaire owner has suggested that it was not the result Newcastle wanted, but he is happy with the effort from the players.

Newcastle were missing a host of key players for this game through injuries and suspension, and as such the squad has been reduced to bare bones. It was always going to be difficult against Dortmund away from home, but Howe felt that they could’ve done better.

“Not the result we wanted, but the boys gave it their all. Fine margins were the difference,” wrote Ghodoussi on X.

“Thank you to all of you who travelled to support us. Safe travels back.”

Difficult

Newcastle now sit at the bottom of Group F with four points, and they need to win their next two games to have any chance of progressing through to the next round.

Goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt earned Dortmund a convincing victory. The Magpies also created one or two good chances, with Joelinton heading Tino Livramento’s cross wide from five yards out.

It was a much-improved second-half display from the injury-hit visitors, but Dortmund were in complete control throughout the match.
