Mikel Arteta has showered praise on Arsenal midfielder Jorginho ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash against Sevilla.
The 31-year-old – who joined from Chelsea in the January window of 2023 – has been an important player for the Gunners.
Jorginho has made three starts in the Premier League and a further five have come from the bench. He has also made two appearances in the Champions League as well and could well start against Sevilla on Wednesday (8 November).
He played in the 1-0 loss against Newcastle United, and Arteta could use him in midfield again, especially with Martin Odegaard still remaining absent. Arteta has hailed him as an “intelligent” and “incredible” player who has the quality to make a team better.
“He is an incredible player, he is a leader, he is a very intelligent player for us, and he has the quality to make the team better, that’s it,” said Arteta, as quoted by Football London.
Big game for Arsenal
Jorginho is a top-class central midfielder and he brings experience to the side. While Arteta relies heavily on the likes of Declan Rice and Fabio Vieira, Jorginho still has plenty to offer.
In the absence of Odegaard, Arteta needs an experienced player in the middle of the park, and Jorginho can be that option.
The Gunners have lost two matches in a row ahead of this match. They lost 3-1 against West Ham in the Carabao Cup, and lost 1-0 against Newcastle in the Premier League. If they suffer another defeat against Sevilla, we can talk of a mini-crisis developing.
Arteta clearly feels that Jorginho can make a huge impact on the side. He hasn’t been outstanding so far, but we all know what he is capable of.
