Newcastle United are heavily interested in signing Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.
The Magpies are missing a host of key players through injuries at the moment, and Eddie Howe needs reinforcement in January.
Falk wrote on X (Formerly Twitter) that the 27-year-old forward has a £15m (€17.5m) release clause in his contract.
With the squad seriously ravaged by injuries, it would make sense for the Magpies to make a move for Guirassy who has been in tremendous form this season, scoring 15 goals in the Bundesliga so far.
He has played mostly as a striker but at the same time, capable of playing in the attacking midfield role.
“Newcastle is interested in Serhou Guirassy from Vfb Stuttgart. The striker has a release clause of €17.5m for January,” wrote Falk.
Need for reinforcement
The international break hardly helped Newcastle apart from players getting some rest.
Some of the injuries sustained by the players are long-term and they aren’t expected to be fit in the next few days.
According to Football London, the Magpies could be without as many as 14 players for their Premier League clash against Chelsea at St James’ Park this weekend.
They lost 2-0 to Bournemouth in their previous game and it will be interesting to see how they respond to the pressure.
Guirassy has played most of his career in France for various clubs, including Lille, Amiens and Rennes. He joined Stuttgart on loan initially last season where he managed 14 goals in all competitions.
It seems he has found his feat in Germany and has been enjoying a great campaign so far. Newcastle should be able to sign him as he will be available at a decent price.
