Tottenham Hotspur have joined Manchester United in the race for Nice defender, Jean-Clair Todibo, as they prepare to sign a centre-back in the winter transfer window, as per Evening Standard.
Following the injury to Micky van den Ven, Ange Postecoglou is keen on adding a quality centre-back to his squad, to help revive their title hopes having lost three consecutive matches owing to the absence of key players.
With Van De Ven out until next year, Spurs have made signing a centre-back a top priority and have set their sight on Todibo for a possible transfer. However, they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals, United who view the France International as the replacement for the unsettled Raphael Varane.
Todibo is one of the standout performers in Ligue 1 for Nice this season and Evening Standard reports that the France International is valued at £39m.
Tottenham also have Lloyd Kelly high on their transfer list while Jarrad Branthwaite and Marc Guehi are being earmarked as potential backup options.
The Red Devils engaged in discussions with Todibo’s representatives last summer, but the French defender expressed hesitancy about making a move at that time.
In the current season, the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the standout performers for Francesco Farioli’s team in Ligue 1, as they aim to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the French League title.
Todibo’s proficiency with the ball is one of his outstanding qualities, which will greatly contribute to Postecoglou’s preferable build-up from the back. Beyond his technical prowess, he possesses remarkable leadership qualities and is also equipped with combative defensive capabilities which makes him one of the toughest defenders to bypass.
