Tottenham Hotspur are likely to target reinforcements in the centre-back and forward areas during the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.
Spurs will be without Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min for some games in January and February due to the Africa Cup of Nations (January 13 to February 11) and Asian Cup (January 12 to February 10), and signings will be required to cope with their absences.
Given how influential the Tottenham captain has been so far in 2023-24, bringing in a quality central striker or left-sided forward during the winter transfer window is crucial if Ange Postecoglou’s side want to keep impressing following their brilliant start to the Premier League campaign.
Spurs will need to identify the perfect players for the job to get their recruitment spot on in the middle of the season after recent successes with Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro in the last two winters, and technical director Johan Lange is set to add key members to the staff.
Former Spurs scout Rob Mackenzie, who worked at the North London club previously between 2015 and 2016, will reunite with Lange as chief scout from Aston Villa.
Villa’s head of research, Frederik Leth, is also expected to join Tottenham and reunite for a second time with Lange as both of them also worked together at Copenhagen.
The 28-year-old is very data-driven and has been with the Midlands club since January 2021.
Leth worked as the Youth Scout and under-19 Performance Analyst, Technical Scout, Head of Technical Scouting and Analytics, Head of Scouting and Analytics and Technical Director during the eight and a half years he spent at Copenhagen, and his experience will come in handy at Tottenham.
Villa have been in fine form on the pitch in recent seasons thanks to his input, and Spurs could benefit immensely with him on their side.
