Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu offered for January transfer

Arsenal defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu has been proposed to Serie A side, Napoli, according to a report from Calciomercato.

The Japan International has only made five starts in the Premier League this season, while the other appearances have been cameos from the bench. Regardless of this, Tomiyasu has contributed to one goal and three assists despite having limited time on the pitch for Arsenal.

The 25-year-old is a familiar face in the Italian Serie A having featured in 64 matches for Bologna before securing a transfer to The Emirates Stadium. Inter Milan made a proposal to sign him last summer but a deal failed to materialize as The Nerazzuri moved to other targets.

There’s a chance for Tomiyasu to return to the Serie A in January and Calciomercato reports that the Japanese has been proposed to Napoli in the ‘last few hours’.

However, Napoli may face two obstacles in joining up Tomiyasu to Walter Mazzarri’s side. Firstly, the report reveals that Arteta may prove hesitant about allowing the defender leave as he has most times proved reliable despite featuring from the bench. However, that stance could change if Gli Azzurri presents a good offer which will then enable The Gunners to find a viable replacement.

Tomiyasu’s potential addition to Japan’s squad for the Asian Cup in January poses another significant setback for Napoli in the pursuit of the defender. If Japan happen to reach the final of the competition, the Italian side will have to wait until mid-February before the defender can join up with the squad.

Tomiyasu has a contract at The Emirates Stadium that runs until June 2025 and is currently valued at €30m (£26m) by transfermarkt.

However, it looks highly unlikely that the Gunners will sell him in January or next summer. The Gunners are lacking depth at the back, and it makes no sense to part ways with a versatile player unless they receive an offer that cannot be refused.
