George Caulkin shares brilliant banner of Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United fans displayed a brilliant banner of their skipper Jamaal Lascelles at St James’ Park on Saturday (16 December) during the Premier League game against Fulham.

The Athletic journalist, George Caulkin, took to X to share the picture of Lascelles with the caption – “Championship to Champions League”, produced by Wor Flags.

Lascelles started the game for the Magpies as they won 3-0 against the Cottagers on Saturday with goals coming from Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn.

After three defeats in a row, including the demoralizing 2-1 loss against AC Milan in the Champions League, Newcastle have bounced back to winning ways. They have to keep winning games in order to close the gap with other top-four rivals.

“A bit of perspective – and a fitting tribute to Jamaal Lascelles – from ⁦the lads and lasses wor flags,” wrote Caulkin.

Fitting tribute

Lascelles joined the Magpies in 2014 but was sent back to Nottingham Forest on loan. He has spent nine seasons at the club and has seen a lot of ups and downs. He has seen relegations and the dark days under Mike Ashley.

The 30-year-old has made over 240 appearances at the club, and he is adored by the fans. He is a key player under Eddie Howe, and has managed 12 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal.

Newcastle played in the Champions League this season and it’s a matter of great pride for the fans to see the team playing in Europe under the new ownership.

It will be tough though for the Magpies to get into the top four next season, but bowing out of the Champions League may help them to focus on the league.
