Giovanni Simeone wants to leave Napoli – Newcastle must move for him

Newcastle United need to add depth to their squad in the January market but Eddie Howe hasn’t received an assurance from the board that he will be getting funds to buy players.

The Magpies are operating on a tight budget due to the Financial Fair Play threat which continues to affect their decision-making in the transfer market, but at the same time, they need to sign two or three players.

The squad has been severely ravaged by injuries and they are struggling badly to cope with the physical demands of the league. The Magpies will probably add players on loans, and with that in mind, they must move for Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone.

According to Sky Sports (transfer live page, 4:26 pm), Simeone wants to leave Napoli in the January transfer window, and it could put Premier League clubs on red alert.

Newcastle United and West Ham were the two clubs mentioned in the report who previously showed interest in signing the 28-year-old who has played for as many as seven different clubs, be it on loan or permanent.

Sky Sports News claims that Simeone is planning to ask for an exit when he holds talks with his club in the next few days. This is a big opportunity for the Magpies to try to lure him away to St James’ Park on loan or at a bargain price.

The Argentine international has been mainly used as a cover for Victor Osimhen but he has always done well whenever called upon. This season, he has managed only four times in all competitions, and his game time has been severely limited.

Simeone scored some important goals on the way to Napoli’s Scudetto last season but it appears that he wants to move on and join a club where he will get regular games. He has more than two years left on his current deal but he has decided to move on.

The Magpies can afford to add depth in their forward region, although adding a new goalkeeper and a quality central midfielder is a top priority for them. Simeone could be a handy option for the Magpies if they decide to move for him.
