Liverpool eye move to sign Leny Yoro

Liverpool have turned their attention towards signing Lille centre-back Leny Yoro, according to Le 10 Sport journalist Alex Bernard

Earlier this week, Le 10 Sport claimed that Liverpool have started discussion with Ibrahima Konate over a new deal. Bernard now claims that the Reds are also showing keen interest in the 18-year-old Lille defender.

According to a report from Teamtalk, a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham are keen to sign the defender. He is valued at around £15.4m by Transfermarket, but Lille are expected to demand almost twice the amount.

Should Liverpool move for him?

He is already a regular member of the Lille first team, and he is rapidly improving. He has made 14 appearances in Ligue 1 already, and has two goals to his name.

Yoro is a tall player and he is strong in the air. Under Paulo Fonseca, Lille have become a side that enjoys a lion share of possession and Yoro has played a big part in it. He is very comfortable on the ball and is very good at distribution. TeamTalk shares that he has got an “extensive passing range”, and could be a handy addition for the Reds.

Liverpool were looking to add a new defender in the summer, but they dropped the plan after losing a host of midfielders. The club needed to focus on bolstering the midfield instead.

However, they have to sign a new defender, either in January or next summer following the injury to Joel Matip. The veteran defender has picked up an ACL injury and he has gone under the knife.

Matip has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and chances are very low that Liverpool will offer him a new deal. In any case, they must invest in young defenders and Yoro fits the bill nicely. If signed, he should be able to get into the senior squad straightaway.
