Liverpool must move for Jean-Clair Todibo in January

Liverpool are set to be without centre-back, Joel Matip after he was forced off in what seems to be a serious injury against Fulham.

Reds Boss revealed that there are yet to be scans or tests to reveal the extent of his injury, but confirmed the injury “will not be a short one”.

Following Matip’s injury, the Reds will only have Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and youngster, Jarell Quansah. While Konate has often struggled with injuries, Gomez’s performances has been inconsistent as the 26-year-old is culpable of being caught out of possession, or position.

Hence, it is pertinent that the Reds add another viable, combative, and consistent centre-back. Late last month, reports from Evening Standard revealed that Liverpool are in the race for OGC Nice defender, Jean-Clair Todibo, amid competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old is one of the standout performers in Francesco Farioli’s team in Ligue 1 this season, as they aim to Usurp Paris Saint-Germain into first place and eventually win the French League.

Todibo will be the perfect fit for Jürgen Klopp’s proactive football, because Todibo himself, is a proactive defender. The Evening Standard claimed that the France International is valued at £39m which is an absolute steal considering his qualities.

His presence at right centre-back will provide Trent Alexander-Arnold the much-needed freedom to invert into midfield where his abilities thrive the most.

Todibo boasts a wealth of experience, having plied his trade in Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Ligue 1, accumulating over 142 senior career appearances.

Todibo’s proficiency on the ball is a prominent feature of his playing style, particularly evident in his pivotal role during the initial phase of build-up.

Furthermore, Todibo exhibits press-resistant qualities, showcasing comfort in stepping out of defense to carry the ball up the pitch.

It remains to be seen how swiftly Liverpool’s sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke will act in the transfer market as they are other interested clubs in the youngster.
