Ollie Watkins doubtful ahead of Aston Villa clash v Bournemouth

Aston Villa will face Bournemouth away from home on Sunday (03 December) in the Premier League.

Ahead of the match, Villa boss Unai Emery has shared the team news, where he suggested that striker Ollie Watkins is a major doubt for this game.

Watkins didn’t play in the 2-1 over Legia Warsaw in midweek and remains a major doubt for this game. Emery says the club will monitor his situation in the next 24 hours before making the final call.

Emery suggested that Watkins felt “small pain” and wasn’t picked for the midweek clash. He sounded hopeful that the English striker could shake off his injury problem ahead of the match, but now it looks like the 27-year-old may really struggle to get into the squad.

“He’s going to be a doubt for Sunday. We are adding other players, like Jhon Duran, Zaniolo and Jacob Ramsey, who is getting more minutes,” said Emery, as quoted by the club official website.

“He’s not completely unavailable for Sunday. We are going to wait for tomorrow and see if we can take a risk with him or not.

“We will see how he feels about facing the demands in 90 minutes we are going to face on Sunday.”

Other players need to step up

Watkins has been in terrific form for Villa this season. He has managed seven goals and five assists in the Premier League this season.

Emery will hope that other players will step up in Watkins’s absence if he misses the trip to Vitality Stadium.

Jacob Ramsey has returned to action after a long injury lay-off, and he is expected to play some part against the Cherries. Villa are currently fourth in the Premier League, ahead of Tottenham, and they will be looking to maintain their winning run.

Bournemouth are in good form as well, having picked up two wins in a row.
