Celtic have suffered defeats in back-to-back Scottish Premier League games for the first time this season after they lost 2-0 against Hearts on Saturday (16 December).
The Bhoys were lackluster throughout the game, and the fans were not happy either. There were signs of unrest among the fans as they chanted “Sack the board”.
Tom English wrote after the game that the situation looks similar to the season when Celtic were chasing their 10th title in a row. Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side ended that run.
The BBC Sports journalist further adds that Brendan Rodgers has looked lost and Celtic are looking like an unconvincing side at the moment. The “fan unrest” will hurt the team, and it will be interesting to see how they respond from here on.
The Bhoys are still leading the Scottish Premiership table by five points, but Rangers have played two games less. If Philippe Clement’s side win their games in hand, they will be above the Hoops, and we will have a fascinating title race on our hands.
“Certain shades of the ’10 in a row’ season about Celtic right now. A point worse off now than they were then. Fan unrest. Totally unconvincing team. ‘Sack the board’ chants. BR looking lost. Title race on. Huge day for Hearts. The marquee win that Steven Naismith was looking for,” wrote English on X.
What has been really frustrating for the Celtic fans is that they are now dropping points at home and their performances have dropped drastically in recent weeks.
Injuries to some of the key players haven’t helped but Rodgers should be doing better with the players he has at his disposal. He has failed to get the best out of the players he bought in the summer.
Rodgers has been insisting that Celtic should be aiming to buy quality players to do well in Europe, and it seems, the club will delve into the January transfer window to bolster their squad. It looks like Rodgers is unconvinced with some of the players at the club, and he might look to get rid of them.
