Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez in the January transfer window, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Spurs are primarily looking to sign a new centre-back in the January transfer window, but they are also looking to bolster their attacking department.
Even though Richarlison has looked in superb form in recent games, “there could be a slot for a forward” if the Brazilian forward moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia in January.
Gimenez has been in scintillating form this season for Feyenoord, managing 18 goals in just 16 Eredivisie games.
Since leaving his former club Cruz Azul in 2022, he has taken the Dutch league by storm. He scored 23 goals across all competitions in his debut season for the Rotterdam side and helped them win their first league title in six years.
According to a recent report from 90min, a host of clubs including Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs are vying for his signature. It would take an Eredivisie-record sum, which currently stands at the £87m (€100m) fee paid by Manchester United for Antony to lure Gimenez away from the club.
Gimenez move unlikely
There’s no doubt that Gimenez would improve the Spurs squad massively. He is a top-class centre forward and goals are guaranteed from him. But any potential deal hinges on whether Richarlison leaves the club in January or next summer.
On top of that, there is strong competition from other Premier League clubs and Real Madrid as well. Feyenoord may not be willing to sell their star player in the middle of the season.
Moreover, the top priority for Spurs right now is a centre-back. The north London giants are looking to sign a new centre-back in January and they are heavily keen to land Radu Dragusin who is available at an affordable price.
