Chelsea monitoring the situation of River Plate striker Agustin Ruberto ahead of potential January swoop

Chelsea are keeping an eye on River Plate striker Agustin Ruberto ahead of a possible move during the January transfer window, according to the Secret Scout.

The Argentina youth international turns 18 on January 6, which makes him eligible to move to Europe, but the Blues are not the only club keen on recruiting his services, with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City also interested.

Ruberto has been promoted to the River Plate first-team after impressing at the FIFA under-17 World Cup last year.

He won the Golden Boot at the tournament with eight goals and Chelsea are looking to pip other suitors to his services this month.

The Blues are famous for signing youngsters and hidden gems from South America, and Ruberto could be the next in line.

The teenage sensation has proven to be a goal machine for club and country, with 14 goals to his name for the Argentine youth teams.

He scored 17 goals in 14 games in 2021 for River Plate academy, earning himself a professional contract in April 2022 as a result.

Chelsea could do with such a prolific hitman right now given their struggles in the Premier League, but Ruberto may not be linking up with manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad should a move go through this month.

Nevertheless, the Stamford Bridge club will not hesitate to land him given his huge potential and talents as he can become a Premier League star in the near future.

The 6ft 1in wonderkid started his career as a centre-back before he was converted to a number 9 by his youth coaches due to his physical and technical ability.

Chelsea will be wise to pip both Man City and Arsenal to Ruberto and could opt to loan him back to River Plate afterwards for his development and progress to continue uninterrupted, and it will be intriguing to see where the youngster ends up plying his trade next.
