Crystal Palace enquire about West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet

Crystal Palace have made an enquiry to sign West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet, according to journalist Sami Mokbel

The Eagles are looking to bolster their squad in the closing stages of the January window, and they have earmarked Cornet as an option.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Palace are weighing up a loan bid to sign the versatile forward for the rest of the season.

Cornet, who is on £64k-per-week deal at the club, has a contract until 2027, but he could be allowed to leave this month. David Moyes is looking to add new players to his squad, but he may need to ship out a few players.

West Ham are also looking to ship out Said Benrahma who is in talks with Lyon over personal terms. Lyon have already agreed a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Good signing?

Cornet joined on a big-money move from Burnley in the summer of 2022. he struggled with injuries last season and managed only 21 appearances in all competitions.

This season, he has managed only eight appearances in all competitions and it feels like he has lost the trust of his manager. Therefore, a move away from the club could help him regain his confidence.

Palace are struggling badly in the Premier League and their recent results have been very poor. They have stressed the need to bolster their attacking department and it seems they are taking a calculative gamble on the 27-year-old.

Cornet can play as a wing-back and also in the attacking wing positions. A loan move doesn’t involve massive risk, so it could turn out to be a very good move for all parties if Cornet proves to be a massive hit at Selhurst Park.

At the moment, he needs to play regularly, something he is not getting Moyes. Hopefully, a deal can be agreed before tomorrow’s deadline.
