Leeds United emerge as frontrunner to sign Bartlomiej Dragowski

Leeds United have emerged as frontrunners to acquire the signing of Spezia goalkeeper, Bartlomiej Dragowski, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.

The Poland International is on the radar of Daniel Farke’s side as they look for a viable replacement for Ilian Meslier who’s been courted for a possible move away from Elland Road to join Spanish outfit, Celta Vigo.

Following a report from Il Secolo XIX as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, Dragowski’s agent, Mariusz Kulesza is open to the possibility of a move to France where several clubs are encircling with Rennes indicating strong interest to rival Leeds for the signing of the 26-year-old.

In the previous season, Dragowski established himself as the undisputed starting goalkeeper for the Ligurians, featuring in 34 matches along with the survival play-off. However, in the current season, he maintained his starting position until the conclusion of November. Unfortunately, he faced a setback, missing two matches against Parma and Ascoli due to injury. Consequently, he lost his place in the starting lineup to the second-choice goalkeeper, Jeroen Zoet.

With his contract set to expire in 2025, Dragowski is tipped to leave the Stadio Alberto Picco amid a lack of game time as he eyes a spot in Poland’s squad for the upcoming Euros.

Should Leeds need to sign a new goalkeeper?

Meslier, the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for Leeds since Marcelo Bielsa’s era, faces minimal competition from reserve keepers. The lack of a proper challenge from Kristoffer Klaesson and Karl Darlow has made Leeds rethink their options if Meslier departs the club.

Hence, Farke appears interested in acquiring a quality goalkeeper to rival Meslier. Considering Dragowski’s desire to depart and the Italian second-division club’s willingness to part ways, The Whites could capitalize on this opportunity.

Numerous clubs, including Leeds, have expressed interest in securing Dragowski’s signature in January. It remains to be seen if Leeds presents a substantial offer in the upcoming days, to ward off competition from other suitors from the French League to bring him to Elland Road.
