Lyon ready to sign Everton loanee Arnaut Danjuma

Everton need to decide what they want to do with Arnaut Danjuma after Lyon have reportedly made a move to sign him.

According to Sky Sports (transfer live blog; 15.15pm), Lyon want to sign the 26-year-old Dutch winger on loan for the rest of the season.

The French club have agreed deal in principle with Villarreal. However, the situation is complicated.

Danjuma joined the Toffees on a season-long loan deal in the summer window. Thus, Everton need to terminate the contract as well for Danjuma to move to Lyon or any other club.

Everton do not have enough money to do business, and that’s why they are looking to keep the squad intact. Danjuma hasn’t played regularly under Sean Dyche, but it looks like the Toffees want him to stay for the rest of the season.

Door open for Danjuma

Dyche has mainly used Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil on flanks. However, McNeil picked up an ankle injury in the FA Cup clash against Crystal Palace, and he was stretchered off during the game. He is set to be out for a while, which could open the door for Danjuma. He is likely to start against Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend unless there’s a major twist.

Everton have improved immensely under Dyche despite a ten-point deduction, and he probably needs more support. However, such is the perilous condition at the club that he can only aim to add players on loan or free transfer.

It is going to be a quiet transfer window at Goodison Park, with the focus on their long-term plans should the 777 takeover go through.

It makes sense for the Toffees to keep Danjuma with them. He is a quality winger but has struggled badly in the past two seasons.

The Toffees have lost three games in a row in the Premier League and they need to bounce back to winning ways when they face Aston Villa.
